EATING OUR WAY TO BETTER HEALTH: HEART DISEASE & OSTEOPOROSIS
Heart Disease
Almost 30 per cent of all women and 50 per cent of women over fifty-fi' are at risk from heart disease. In America, heart disease kills 500,000 women a year and almost 40 per cent of women who have a heart attack will die within the first year. Changes in eating habits and nutrition can save your life. The American Heart Association blames fat for most of the coronary heart disease. Studies of antioxidants are also proving that nutrients can extend your life expectancy. And a new study from the University of Maryland says that weight loss may be the most effective| way to improve coronary artery disease risk factors. Gaining weight is not so good for your heart either. Women who gained between twenty-four and forty-one pounds as adults doubled their risk of heart disease.
Osteoporosis
The American Dietetic Association says that good nutrition, such as adequate calcium, can help prevent the onset of osteoporosis and reduce the severity of the disorder. Osteoporosis is blamed for 1.5 million fractures a year and affects 25 million Americans.
Thank you VERY much for your kind email, which explains everything. And
for your continued good service, which has - frankly - saved my
